21st Century AV for 21st Century Learning

The University of Stirling has invested nearly £14m in redeveloping its library building in order to create a truly modern learning resource at the heart of the University campus. The University’s vision has been to create a 21st century library which serves the information needs of students at the physical and intellectual heart of the campus. A vibrant, welcoming place where students interact with each other and with the many resources available, helped by knowledgeable mentors.

To make this vision possible, the University needed an environment which could provide the latest communication technology; one that encouraged enterprise and creativity as well as scholarship. The University turned to their local supplier and Anders+Kern for its Brands of Distinction product range. A+K’s provision of presentation and teaching equipment, such as the PolyVision eno dynamic and eno interactive whiteboards, provided an environmentally friendly solution which, via the PolyVision “Forever Warranty”, also guaranteed longevity.

A+K’s solutions have proven to be superior teaching tools which all users were able to rapidly master. Teaching staff, in particular, appreciate the interactive nature of the whiteboards and that dry wipe marker pens may be used freely without damaging the surface. Many of the library’s study rooms now have full AV facilities, with LCD displays mounted using SMS wall to floor mounts, secure media cabinets and a shelf for housing equipment. The rooms allow students to practice presentations and work on group projects, and benefit from having LCDs with low reflective screen surfaces to ensure that any bright light reflecting onto the screen and causing a glare is eliminated. The LCD screens offer high resolution, excellent picture quality and stunning levels of brightness.

The Main Reception and Enterprise suite is an area where services are made available to enable all members of the University to exploit the opportunities created by the constantly changing information landscape. A+K PADS Digital Signage is used, as well as A+K INFOLINE.The system was delivered and in operation within a day, and displays regularly updated information to both students and staff.
