Flexibility, adaptability and sound advice

The University of Edinburgh Business School is known internationally as a leading business school with a highly respected MBA programme. Providing business education since 1918, the School focuses on four main areas of study: financial services; public management; entrepreneurship and innovation; and carbon management.

In 2007 the Business School decided that in order to improve its teaching capabilities to their desired level a change of premises would be necessary, and started plans to move to a different location. The building chosen was ageing and had limited AV-based teaching aids, so the Business School contracted an approved supplier able to offer the latest digital communication tools, and with the expertise to devise a flexible solution that would enable the new AV equipment to integrate seamlessly into the various different teaching areas.

Anders + Kern (A+K) and the Business School’s contracted supplier were able to demonstrate the flexibility and adaptability of their sourced products, and gave advice on how the nature of their requirements pointed towards the suitability of A+K’s range of RoomWizard booking systems, A+K PADS digital signage systems and BORKS Column Board Systems.

Each of the solutions suggested by A+K offered meaningful benefits to the Business School. RoomWizard’s touch-screen displays mounted outside equipped rooms provide scheduling and reservation information at a glance, ideal for finding an impromptu meeting or lecture space, or avoiding interrupting a room currently occupied. A+K’s PADS software, allowing users to incorporate text, video images and sound, and display messages within a few seconds of input, is both powerful and user-friendly, and conveniently operated: users centrally manage content that can be broadcast to a number of separate displays, whether local, regional or international.

The refurbished building intended for use by the Business School required a teaching solution that was robust and could be easily raised and lowered, which is why A+K supplied custom BORKS Column Board systems, to guarantee a high-quality finish throughout.

The AV installation project has been well received by both lecturer and student users. Now located in a modern, bright and flexible teaching environment, the University of Edinburgh Business School is able to offer a large variety of formal and informal teaching spaces.
