Stewart Filmscreen introduces Starpresence screen at InfoComm 2007

New telepresence screen creates a totally immersive and realistic videoconferencing experience.

Anaheim, CA, June 19, 2007—Stewart Filmscreen Corporation® (Booth 3609)—the industry leader in precision projection screens in the home cinema and commercial markets—introduced today its latest videoconferencing solution, the StarPresence telepresence videoconference screen. The StarPresence rear-projection screen, with its soft horizontal curve, allows for a totally immersive videoconferencing experience, making videoconferencing more realistic than ever.

In today’s fast-paced and demanding business environment, it is often necessary to “be there” face-to-face with clients, co-workers, and partners—but that’s not always possible. StarPresence rear-projection telepresence screen is the answer. Telepresence technology allows members of a conference to feel as though remote participants are actually in the room. By positioning the StarPresence screen alongside the conference table in both the main site and the “twin site” remote location, the StarPresence screen, projecting the image of the twin site, appears to be a continuation of the room. In other words, the twin site looks like the other half of the room. The technology creates “in-person” experiences that lead to faster decision-making, greater productivity, improved responsiveness, and increased communication and collaboration, not to mention the reduced travel time and expenses of going to the remote location.

While telepresence technology is nothing new, the StarPresence screen, made of Stewart’s popular StarGlas projection screen, has several benefits over traditional video displays in this type of installation. Unlike flat-panel displays, for example, Stewart StarPresence has no borders. One seamless image is produced rather than several smaller displays with black or silver bezels interrupting the image. Additionally, flat-panel displays are just that: flat. The curved StarPresence rigid rear-projection screen is desirable to mimic the curve of a round or oval conference table, as well as to immerse the participants in the videoconference, creating unparalleled realism that simply cannot be obtained from a flat-panel video wall. StarPresence’s soft horizontal curve makes you feel like you are there.

The high-definition image obtained from the StarGlas screen material is bright, even, and crisp, and allows edge-blending applications for long video walls that create a seamless continuous image. Available in StarGlas 60 (0.60 gain) and StarGlas 100 (1.0 gain), StarPresence offers images up to 75 by 100 inches. The StarPresence works exceptionally well with Stewart’s OptaKong Mirror folded optic systems.
